Coming Soon: The Garcitas Community in Life Still Magazine Issue 02

My photo essay on the Garcitas Community will appear in Issue 02, the Fall 2026 edition of Life Still Magazine, a publication of Working Assumptions.

The work is part of my ongoing photographic research into the Garcitas Community, a Texas Freedom Colony rooted in the lives of formerly enslaved people and sustained through generations of descendants. Through photographs, family archives, land records, oral histories, and the physical landscape, the project considers how descendants continue to hold and preserve knowledge of place.

The photo essay extends my larger project, The Garcitas Community: Deep Roots, Buried Histories, and my continued work around photography, Black spatial memory, family archives, and preservation.
